MUST READ: Arsenal players finally give verdict on Wenger’s deal
9jagift brings you the latest Arsenal news, match analysis, transfer news, injury news, team news and rumours from trusted media outlets around the world.
Hector Bellerin says Arsenal stars all want Arsene Wenger to remain as manager beyond the current campaign.
Wenger’s future has been subject of speculation since the beginning of the campaign because of his refusal to give an indication if he will sign a contract extension to his current deal which expires at the end of the season.
The speculations have been heightened in recent days after a 10-2 aggregate defeat in the hands of Bayern Munich saw us exit the Champions League competition in the round of 16 stage for the fifth consecutive year and a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield ended our title hopes.
A section of Arsenal fans want Wenger to quit after the team’s poor showing in recent weeks but Bellerin says the players want the boss to stay.
“We all back him and of course we want him to stay. The whole team is behind the manager” , Bellerin was quoted as saying by The Straits Times, as quoted by Inside Football.
“He’s played a big part in making me the player that I am, and there are loads of players in the dressing room who will be in the same position as me” , the Spanish defender added.
Wenger achieved big things with Arsenal in the early years at the club, winning three league titles and four FA Cups but he has struggled to match such achievements in the last decade.
However, he has never finished outside the top four in his 20 year reign but Gooners are now demanding for more. It remains to be seen whether Wenger will take up the challenge by penning a new deal or decide to quit for fresh hands to take over.
Regardless of whether he signs a new deal or not, Wenger’s legacy will be his ability to help nurture young players into top footballers with Bellerin being a prime example.
