Arsenal boss initiates move to agree €32.8m deal, phone-call made – Report

According to emerging reports, Arsene Wenger has made a new attempt to secure the signing of a midfield target.

The Gunners boss has often done his best to maintain a reputation of not spending too loosely in the transfer market over the years.

However, last summer saw Wenger change his habits as the arrivals of Granit Xhaka, Rob Holding, Takuma Asano, Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez were secured in a total cost which exceeded the $100m mark.

With Santi Cazorla’s contract at the club set to expire after the 2016/17 campaign, the Arsenal manager appears to  be targeting the signing of a competent replacement.

And according to a report by the Sun, Wenger has personally made a phone-call to Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic, ‘to ask him if he would like to join Arsenal’.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international, who joined the Serie A champions from AS Roma last summer, has been linked with a move to the Emirates stadium in the past.

With Arsenal expected to lose the injury-prone Cazorla permanently after this season, a €32.8 million offer is reportedly being readied for Pjanic.
