Arsenal star Confirms new deal is close
Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has moved to reveal that he could soon be signing a new deal at the Emirates despite the fact that he has struggled for playing time of late.
Even though he has only started one Premier League fixture this term, the Frenchman has scored a number of important goals already, and it was his late strike that secured Boxing Day win over West Bromwich.
Giroud has scored a total of 6 goals in just over 500 minutes of football this season, and he admits it has been tough for him over the last few months.
“I came back a bit late from the Euros and it was nice for my body because I could rest but not good for me because the team was doing well and another striker was doing well up front,” he told Sky Sports.
“This season has been difficult because also I was injured for a month and a half so it hasn’t been easy.
“I don’t want to talk too much about me but it was a big day for me, but a turning point for the team because if we didn’t win we would have been in trouble.”
Giroud also moved to deny claims he had signed a new deal with the club, but did hint an agreement might be on the horizon.
“People have been saying I have signed a new contract. It is not true but maybe soon.”
Considering the amount of time spent on the pitch this season, Giroud has done brilliantly in front of the opposition goal and with Alexis Sanchez misfiring at the moment, the Frenchman should probably be given a prolonged run in the side.
The Chilean should obviously keep his place in the starting line-up, playing on either wing, with Alex Iwobi likely to be dropped.
