“An Official Offer Made” €15m Rated Defender Confirms Big Arsenal News
Djibril Sidibé was a surprise target for Arsenal during the summer and the French defender has lifted the lid on reports of the Gunners interest in him.
The AS Monaco man told Calcio Mercato:
““Arsenal wanted to sign me in the previous transfer window, they are one of the best clubs in the world and I can confirm that they made an official offer.”
“After the 2015-16 campaign, I was expecting some offers and I was flattered by Arsenal’s interest.”
The full back was a target for compatriot Arsène Wenger following speculation over Kieran Gibbs’ and Mathieu Debuchy’s futures.
The England left back decided to remain at the Emirates and fight Nacho Monreal for his place whilst Debuchy’s move to Turkey fell through, leaving Sidibe free to leave Lille for Monaco.
His words suggest that he hopes the chapter may not be over. With just three months in the south of France under his belt, he’s keen not to burn bridges:
“At the moment, however, I am only focused on AS Monaco”
Sidibe is sure to be on Arsène Wenger’s list of targets next summer when Debuchy is likely to leave with Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson both likely to seek new clubs as they seek to realise their international dreams.
The defender signed for Monaco in a deal said to be worth €15 million which means should Arsenal still want him, they can get him for between €18-€23m which is still very good considering how good the player is and the inflated natured of the transfer market these days.
