I dont want this time to stop” – Theo Walcott determined to keep fine goalscoring form going

Theo Walcott has vowed to keep his hot goalscoring form this season going as he gears up for his first England start since October 2015.

The 27-year-old has netted five goals in eight games at club level with Arsenal this season, but he hasn’t scored for England since this time last year against Estonia.

"Sanchez and Walcott were lost in a sea of Burnley shirts"

Following Arsenal's plucky 1-0 win at Burnley, the Squawka Talker looks at how Burnley made life...

Walcott managed to score on three occasions during the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign before being overlooked by Roy Hodgson for the 23-man squad that were knocked out of the tournament in France by European minnows Iceland.

But interim England boss Gareth Southgate announced on Friday that Walcott is set to start against Malta at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

Theo Walcott has registered a shot accuracy of 58% in the Premier League this season.

"I don't want this time to stop," Walcott said while sitting beside Southgate in a pre-match press conference. "I have been working hard and I want to be better than the opposition.

"It is stuff people won't see, but deep down you know you are ready for the match having trained well during the week.

"I want this form to continue and you have the support of the team-mates too."

Walcott managed only five goals in 28 Premier League appearances during the 2015/16 season after recording five in 14 for the previous campaign.

But he has regained his goalscoring touch this term with his two goals against Champions League group stage opponent Basel and league strikes against Chelsea, Liverpool and Hull City.
